Digestive Health

Chronic Digestive Health Issues are Becoming Increasingly Common.

Chronic issues with digestive health are problematic for several reasons. First, if you are experiencing gut issues, this means you are not receiving all the nutrients from the food you eat. A lack of proper nutrients can leave the body feeling fatigued and stressed. Second, your gut, considered to be the “second brain” of the body, is where most of your neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine, are made. If your gut health is poor, this may result in reduced production of these neurotransmitters, leading to symptoms related to anxiety and depression. Third, unhealthy bacteria, fungi, or parasites cause inflammation and can result in an unhealthy immune system. This means that your poor gut health can lead to decreased functioning of the immune system. This becomes especially important since over half of the immune system is located in the GI tract.

There are Long-Term Impacts.

If your digestive system isn’t functioning properly, it can eventually cause:

  • Chronic acid reflux or heartburn, GERD
  • Gas and bloating
  • Leaky gut syndrome
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Celiac’s disease
  • Food allergies
  • Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)
  • Ulcerative colitis or diverticulitis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Depression and anxiety (related to the lack of gut-brain connection)
